Family tree indicates that he was married in the 5th year of Edward IV which would be 1466. His birth date is not certain. The Johns may be mixed up here. See the notes under the other John Sheldon (10706) who was also the grandson of Ralph Sheldon (10694).
Jim Pearson in his book on St Leonard's Church, Beoley states that the family tree is misleading. "The inscription over the tomb of William Sheldon states that he was the son of John Sheldon of Rowley, however the escutcheon shows that he was son of Ralph Sheldon and Joyce Ruding. He is therefore grandson of John of Abberton and not descended from John of Rowley". However both Johns appear to have been born in Rowley, so they may be confused.
At present I only know of one child - Clare, but there would probably have been more, although she appears to have been the main heir. Clare married Cornish Worley of Hampsted in Staffordshire.
Bigland entry "John Sheldon of Rowley Regis (before 18th Oct) 19th Henry 7th anno 1504" This date must refer to his death as the entry for his wife Mary indicates that she was a widow in 1504)
Bigland entry "Mary his wife, living a widow 18th Oct 19th Henry 7th, anno 1504 at which time she sold her jointure to William Sheldon of Beoley" (My note - but was she born in 1420 or later?) |
